Woodworker
MP Woodworker is the collection of creations from Matthew Peel, a hobbyist woodworker with 25 years experience. I specialize in working with reclaimed materials and have a firm belief that the blemishes, scars, and history of the materials should be celebrated and highlighted, rather than erasing and sanding away. It is those imperfections that make each piece unique and visually appealing, and many times telling a story that cannot be told with new-lumber materials.
I gather my materials from many places, including old houses and barns that are slated for demolition or heavy renovation, dumpsters filled with discarded "trash" from other peoples' projects, broken and old furniture that has lost its life in its current form, but is made of beautiful wood, and dusty, dirty job sites with piles of old lumber lying around. I also look for rusty relics to reimagine into new forms.
My favorite projects involve taking materials that have a personal connection for a person or family and creating a lasting piece that honors those memories.
I can also make custom pieces based on a person's request, and I can be reached by email at mshift2peel@gmail.com or by phone at (860) 383-6579.
